St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino

Golf and poker in one breathtaking location

If you think that hockey is the top recreational activity in Canada, then you’re quite mistaken. Golf is actually the primary sport in the country, and according to the National Allied Golf Associations, there are around six million Canadian golfers. In a tourism aspect, more than a million trips are made every year just for the purpose of playing golf, and an estimated $1.9 billion is spent on golf-related travel. There are even international tournaments that happen here, such as the Canadian German Swiss Golf Tournament last June. Alongside with golf, another fad has emerged and gained momentum in the country: the card game poker. Although poker has roots in Europe and its most popular variation (Texas Hold’em) has an American origin, Canadians relate to the game as if it was their own. This is evident in the rise of landbased casinos and the number of Canadian poker players online. In fact, golfers tend to relax with a poker game or two after playing golf.

For this reason, the trend among golfers nowadays is to find one place where they can both enjoy golfing and also satisfy their poker craving. They won’t have to go far; British Columbia has both a golf resort and a casino under one establishment. Between the Rocky Mountains and Purcell lies St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino, known for its scenic location and spectacular view of the Rockies. St. Eugene is nature-inclined, and it also promotes cultural awareness by advocating for ethnicity rights. It even has an Interpretative Centre that exhibits Ktunaxa culture. Families who cannot leave their pets at home when they’re on holiday may bring them over at the resort with them since the place is pet-friendly. Its golf course was designed by the famous architect Les Furber, with an impressive view of Fisher Peak and St. Mary River. Tourists from Germany and France especially love the view whenever they play golf within the resort.

The casino is another story. This is the only casino in the Kootenay Rockies, aptly coined Casino of the Rockies. It offers 234 slot machines and traditional table games such as blackjack, baccarat, e-roulette, three-card poker, and four-card poker. A poker room for high stakes No Limit Texas Hold’em is available for guests, reminiscent of the VIP lounges in Casino Berlin. If PartyPoker World Poker Tour Finals participants have sponsored accommodations with the event’s hotel partners, St. Eugene has a similar arrangement: the Casino Stay & Play Package. You get the luxury of staying in one of the deluxe hotel rooms, while enjoying the thrill of a poker match. Fine dining in the hotel is also quite an experience—guests may choose from a wide array of dishes offered in the following restaurants: Fisher Peak Lounge, the 19th Hole Bar & Grill, Fred’s Saloon, and the Purcell Grill.
