Stanley Thompson, Canada’s master golf course architect, displayed his finest work with his design of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course in Jasper, Alberta. Opened in 1925, and playing from a comfortable 6,663 yards from the tips, the Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course is very playable for any caliber of golfer on a golf vacation in Albert, Canada.

In 1994, a restoration project was launched in Alberta to refurbish the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course to its initial layout using Thompson’s original course blueprints from 1924 was undertaken. The main focus was spent on restoring the bunkers and tee boxes in an effort to recreate the fundamental design.

Taking full advantage of the surrounding vistas naturally found throughout Jasper, Alberta, each tee box provides a spectacular view of Canada’s beauty. Golf packages within this Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary are a true pleasure.

“It is a great escape for the outside world in Jasper as the only sounds are from your playing partners and the various Alberta wildlife that shares the grounds,” said Tim Alberts, Canada golf expert. “The landing areas are generous, yet there is plenty of challenge for a golf course that opened almost 100 years ago in Alberta, Canada.”

Jasper is 3.5 hours from Edmonton, and five hours from Calgary, meaning it cannot be played and enjoyed on a daily basis for the majority of golf enthusiasts on short golf vacations. Although the travel distance is a negative, traveling to Jasper, Alberta is an absolute joy, making any drive through the countryside with views of the Canadian Rockies well worth it.

“Take advantage of the relatively short par 5’s that are less than 500 yards (except No. 13). Play to the left side of the fairway on the No. 8 Tekarra’s Cut, this will give you a look to the green,” said Alberts. “No. 9 – Cleopatra, it’s downhill so one less club is advisable, but trust the club you’ve pulled as visually it will have you second guessing yourself. If playing the No. 14 – Lac Beauvert, from either the black or blue box, leave yourself at least 150 > 130 in as you could go through the fairway on the right side, thus blocking your view of the green.”
