Kananaskis, Alberta Offers Great Rocky Mountain Golf Courses

KANANASKIS, Alberta – Great golf in the Canadian Rockies is easily found in Kananaskis, Alberta. Specifically, one of the best golf courses to book a golf vacation while in Canada is at Kananaskis Country Golf Course’s Mt. Kidd design, which is one of two 18-hole courses – And from the fourth tee box here, it is obvious the hole is one of the best in Canada.

The hole features an elevated tee shot to a green set between a pair of mountains off in the distance, while the Kananaskis River runs along the right side. It is like a mix of the Rockies and Florida, minus the stifling humidity of the Orange State.

Another fantastic hole in the Alberta, Canada golf paradise is the Mt. Lorette design’s sixth hole, a great, water-heavy par 3 with its own stunning mountain backdrop.

There have been grizzly sightings on the fairways due to Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s recommendation to move the golf course from its originally intended location on the other side of the valley. Jones took a helicopter tour of the area before construction, and said they had found the wrong place for the golf course. When he saw the opposite side of the valley, he noticed the river and better mountain backdrops, so the course was built there instead after the Canadian government permitted the change.
